Four percent of Africans reside in these United States. What is the recipe for economic, political and cultural "thrival" in this nation? Is there any consensus around a diagnosis of the core issue? Of the symptoms? And is there consensus around a course of treatment? Nope. In the absence of consensus, I would take the cash contributions of a Washingtonian/Reginald Lewis/Nicky Barnes figure (our Washington, not theirs)...
I don't know that our best deals have come about this way - precisely because I am unclear about what our best deals have been. For example, since the NAACP established its path in pursuit of what Cruse termed non-economic liberalism, the benefits which accrued to black folks have been principally social. At root, our collective still does not control one single industry in this nation. Simply, there are precious few black men or women who can go to their elders looking for what you termed the "hook up." This situation does not obtain for other groups except america's indians and certain spanish-speaking groups.
I would like to discuss this issue of "best deals" further because I believe this is at the core of accountability. It's not foreign to you asking RAGE for data...simply...how do you know what you know. That's a fair question. Imagine debating about the role of the US in 9-11 bombing and someone rejecting this out of hand because "the US would never do something like that." This statement might hold sway on FOX, but not in a history text that addressed the sinking of the US Maine, the Bay of Pigs or the Gulf of Tonkin. So, a historical frame of reference is important - if not decisive.
Of course, tonite, I have the option of watching Rasheed's Redemption or the birth of Duncan's Dynasty. In either case, Cornel and them fellas is a** out.
