Umoja Victorious

We are a part of a black homeschooling network in Baltimore called Umoja. I haven't done the research, but I wouldn't be surprised if it weren't one of the strongest such organizations on the East Coast if not the country. Every year elite schools from across the state compete in an event called BATTLE OF THE BOOKS. Read 25-40 books as a team, and know them well enough to be able to answer a series of questions about them under pressure. The team with the highest score wins.

Umoja fielded two teams--one for fifth and sixth grades, one for seventh and eighth grades.

The event was today. I wasn't able to make it because of a committee meeting...but I wish I could have.

My daughter's team tied for third place. The seventh and eighth grade squad came in first.

I just wished we could've taped it and created some sort of documentary from it.
