Dear Readers, civilization as we know it is coming to an end soon. I hope not. This is not the wacky proclamation of a doomsday cult, apocalypse Bible sect or conspiracy theory society. Rather, it is a scientific conclusion of the best-paid, most widely respected geologists, physicists and investment bankers in the world. These are rational, professional, conservative individuals who are absolutely terrified by the phenomenon known as global peak oil.
Conservative Congressman Roscoe Bartlett serves as Chairman of the Projection Forces Subcommittee of the Armed Services Committee. One of three scientists in the Congress, Dr. Bartlett is also a senior member of the Science Committee. Due to his ten years of experience as a small business owner, he also serves on the Small Business Committee and is its Vice Chairman. Published on 15 Mar 2005 by US Congressional Record. Anyway, what the deal?
Thermodynamic underpinning of economic just-so-storytelling..,
How do you suggest we repent for salvation?
Can't unpack your labels.., perhaps you'd be kind enough to specify what you're talking about?
Wagons, yo?
the wagon is a metaphor.., for situational awareness and concrete action. at the core of this is the historical fact of the wagontrain charter, a detailed contract in which roles and responsibilities and individual utility were carefully documented to ensure the success of the wagontrain as a viable enterprise.
the wagon and the charter are calculated to deter those lacking organic competencies..., you gotta be able to pull your own weight in the malthusian afrofuture
"the wagon is a metaphor.., for situational awareness and concrete action." [my bold]
Alright. Please, continue. What's the route and how will we know we're there?
Posted by: memer at March 20, 2005 04:16 PMI've heard a lot about this today. A strong conservative commentator tried to make it a major topic on his show but failed because of the day's events.

Did you get in touch with Cheryl at the African Homeschooler's Association? If so, what tangible value were you able to identify and determine that you could bring to that collective endeavor?

Who?
In my estimation, every other political topic is window-dressing and conversation relative to this one. I encourage you to smoke it over, bring it to the attention of others whose analytical skillz you respect, and then please let me know what you think. Hush Bimbo has been downplaying Peak Oil for months now, (not that I'm equating influential with strong here) and I haven't heard any of the others dare breathe a word about it.
One of the best and most encompassing resource sites for this subject is Jay Hanson's Dieoff site. Possibly a little more Malthusian than most people are accustomed to.
Posted by: cnulan at March 21, 2005 11:16 PMNope. I did go to the site as you suggested at P6's a while back and read through it. Interesting. I especially like the part in the Black Child's Pledge that sez, " I will unselfishly share my knowledge and understanding with them in order to bring about change more quickly." Hm. Anyway, sure, I could contribute to this particular effort, but I have other plans in mind. Toronto has many, many channels. But let's not get sidetracked playing the sniffy, who-can-make-the-cut conductor when there isn't even a crowd gathered yet. The tired ol' blacker-than-thou thing, as empowering as it might be for some, is less than useless.
The connection between what we should be doing in a peak-oil, end-of-civilization crisis and what Cheryl is not clear to me. Afrocentric homeschooling? Ok, I dig it. I even wish we had a black version of the Jewish synagogue school system to indoctrinate and innoculate the chilluns (and screw the Black History Monf crap). Mebbe (probably) the association is a step towards that. But is that the centrepiece of your Masterplan? Cool if it is, but enough with the peek-a-boo Socratic stylees, awready. If the crisis is for real, this ain't no time for games - preeeach, bruh. Out with it.

The disturbing thing about scoffing at the weirdos on the corner carrying "The end is near" signs -- whether it's based on bible or statistical secular study -- is the fact that someday they're going to be 100% right. Bloody 'ell.
Anyway, what the deal? How do you suggest we repent for salvation? Wagons, yo?
