More Black "Us" vs. "Them" Silliness

I wasn't going to go here.
Really.

But comments to blog entries by
dcthornton and Black Republicans don’t really want to go down this path.

Black GOP’ers claim that Blacks are emotionally tied to the Democrat party.

That’s a fair comment.

Black GOP’ers say that Blacks need to examine politics in a non-emotional way.

That’s a fair comment even if idealistic. The reality is politics is emotional.

Now they start with the plantation stuff?

Ya’ll don’t want to go down that path. Especially when there are Black GOP’ers whose words can come back to haunt them.

Think I’m kidding? Do this search in Google. Use the quotes. It’s one search.

“shannon reeves” “window dressing”

When you get the results, use the cached copy to get to the Contra Costa Times article.

Here’s a quote:

“Black Republicans are expected to provide window dressing and cover to prove that this is not a racist party, yet our own leadership continues to act otherwise,” party Secretary Shannon Reeves wrote in an e-mail to party board members.

I just saved the cached page for my own use. I may post it publicly, but I suspect it would be a good idea to ask for copyright clearnance first in this case. Posted by: P6 at September 30, 2004 07:20 AM

Yeah, I heard that story 18 months ago when it was fresh. Too bad I haven't bothered to follow up. Not that anybody really cares what real black Republicans think about DeLuz, Reeves or exactly what policy differences they might have.

I don't expect the press to do any better. In fact I don't expect anybody to do any better, because when the discussion is at this level of bitching and whining, it really doesn't matter who is right or wrong.

That's all the comment you get today.

Was it bitching and moaning when Jack Kemp stated that he was essentially sidelined by the GOP for saying that the GOP should be going after the Black vote?

Was it bitching and moaning when Tony Snow said he was essentially fired from the Bush, Sr. administration for stating that they should go after the Black vote?

Was it bitching and moaning when Mary Matalin said that she met a brick wall when she tried to convince the Bush, Sr. administration to go for the Black vote?

I find it mind boggling that the GOP is now saying that they have to correct history by pointing out that the Democrats were the people who stood in the way of the Civil Rights Act. And to a degree, they are right. It was the Southern Democrats, or Dixiecrats, that stood in the way.

Then the GOP plays a game of statistics by saying a higher percentage of Republicans voted for the Civil Rights Act than Democrats. But they don't mention the hard numbers.

So, they go an correct history but then leave out the history of the Southern Strategy.

So, now the GOP may have decided to targets those Blacks under the age of 40. In other words, target a group who you know is weak on history, as MOST of America is. Fill in some misrepresentation of history but don't give the entire story.

"History is written by the victors."

In the mean time, Black Republicans call Blacks stupid and stuck on the plantation?
