Some Vietnam vets are supporting Kerry. Some Vietnam vets are not supporting Kerry and with good reason.
Mr. Kerry, you have re-opened the madness of the Vietnam War and the garbage the men and women faced when they returned from that "conflict."
Thank you Mr. Kerry. You have showed that you are at least as much as a divider as is President Bush.
I believe the patrol boat vet who supported your version of events.
I believe the patrol boat vets who don't support your version of events.
In the "heat of battle," what really happened can be hard to determine.
But you, Mr. Kerry, are an idiot. There is no other way to state it. Who else but an idiot would rely on being a "war hero" with your anti-Vietnam statements, on tape, just waiting for you?
You are disqualified just for being an idiot.
"Reporting for duty"?
Dismissed!

Posted by: EBrown at August 27, 2004 06:01 PMNot sure what Kerry's ant-Vietnam comments were. Regardless, that is a very simplistic way of looking at his stance. What I have heard are comments by Kerry against those leaders sending those young men like my father over to fight and die without any idea how to win and leave. He spoke against that leadership that lied to the American people about the reasons for the war and that we were "winning" Don't really see how that makes him an idiot aor disqualified.
Who's he idiot then? The Bush campaign for putting the swift boat morons up when their claims can and have been easily refuted. For thinking that the American people are stupid enough to trust the words of people who have long ties to Republicans and Republican mopney. So you can believe the SBL if you wish, I see them for what they are...nothing but common liars.
Posted by: walter at August 27, 2004 11:44 PMThere is no evidence of any "Republican money", but there's plenty of evidence for "Democrat money" for all the MoveOn crap and the rotund Michael Moore's piece of trash of a movie. Besides, these men have just as much right to tell their story as Dem-front orgs have to tell theirs (even if they make one up!)
Bottom line, in all honesty, I don't care about any of it anymore.
Ed, I'm becoming quite disillusioned with the whole thing. I don't know what I'm going to do on November 2. Maybe I'll turn my blog into a place to go for information on arts and crafts.

I fail to see how bringing up the fact that he served (and, further, that he served admirably) opens up Vietnam madness. The whole exercise was just to give the impression to those who give credence to the democrat=dove formula that he's not a pantywaist.
I thought that was fairly obvious. Yes, there is a parallel with that war in that the country is deeply divided over how to handle this war on terror, but Kerry's only claim is that there is a more inclusive, collaborative way to track down and eliminate the terror networks/cells.
How that effort gets stretched into him being a "divider" is beyond me.
For me it's very clear it is the F.O.R.-backed SBV who are driving the wedge.
Posted by: memer at August 28, 2004 09:15 AMLB,
If by "Democrat money" you mean registered Democrats gave money to MoveOn, uh, yeah, of course. But your severly misinformed if you don't know that the Swift Boat Liars are funded by money from longtime Republicans. See here:

From the original New York Times article:
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/08/20/politics/campaign/20swift.html?ei=5070&en=06874a1a4e694678&ex=1093838400&pagewanted=print&position=
"A series of interviews and a review of documents show a web of connections to the Bush family, high-profile Texas political figures and President Bush's chief political aide, Karl Rove."
"Records show that the group received the bulk of its initial financing from two men with ties to the president and his family - one a longtime political associate of Mr. Rove's, the other a trustee of the foundation for Mr. Bush's father's presidential library. A Texas publicist who once helped prepare Mr. Bush's father for his debate when he was running for vice president provided them with strategic advice."
"Mr. [Bob]Perry, who has given $200,000 to the group, is the top donor to Republicans in the state, according to Texans for Public Justice, a nonpartisan group that tracks political donations. He donated $46,000 to President Bush's campaigns for governor in 1994 and 1998. In the 2002 election, the group said, he donated nearly $4 million to Texas candidates and political committees."
Next time if you are going to state a claim that is false, make sure its not easily refutable.
Yes, these men have a right to tell their story but that's not what they are doing. They are muddying the records and slandering the name of a man that proudly served his country. Even if you don't like his policies, you can't besmerch that. Unless you have no shame.
Posted by: walter at August 28, 2004 07:34 PMThe New York Times and Daily Kos? OK. Whatever you say.
Posted by: LB at August 29, 2004 10:33 AMI'm not being facetious...but you can do better than that right? It can be verified empirically that Perry either IS or is NOT the biggest GOP donor in Texas...separate from the information source. Now maybe this particular factoid isn't important--but if it IS, then perhaps you should falsify the STATEMENT rather than going after the SOURCE.
Posted by: Lester Spence at August 30, 2004 12:54 AMThe New York Times and Daily Kos? OK. Whatever you say.
LOL!! I knew that would be your comeback. I suppose if I had put up a link to the Free Republic or Fox News you would have lauded its objectivity?
So typical, instead of coming back with facts to disprove anything that I, the New York Times, or DKos has written, You merely imply some sort of bias among the sources. So lazy and so dishonest but what else should I have expected? I wonder why? Could it be because you know that your original statement is wrong? A lie?
I don't suffer fools much LB, so this ends this little conversation. Spence may not wish to be facetious, but I do. You have proven you are worthy of nothing else.
